About

Nature Voices entertains, educates and inspires audiences to care for the natural world and those with whom we share it with. Martin Sheills weaves enchanting rhythms through original beats telling tales of endearing characters and their lives through lively boom bap hip-hop. Informative and with a warm, old-school flavour, this is learning for all ages at it’s most engaging.

Featuring Dori the Dormouse, Percy the Pine Marten, Olivia the Otter and other lovable members of endangered or vulnerable species, strong personalities and cheeky swagger abound, each song is chock full of fascinating facts and innovative lyricism. The live act involves audience participation inlcuding the chance to guess the animal call at the start of each song.

Nature Voices features live instrumentation and tight harmonies. Having cut his teeth at conservation events with The Wildlife Trust, Martin is taking his campaign for a thriving British countryside to new audiences.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Nature Voices commissioning Martin to perform his raps at public events for Devon Wildlife Trust. He entertains on all levels; perfect fun for younger audiences but also his nature observation and lyrics are 100% accurate enough to be considered a learning resource! There’s a British sense of humour thrown in for the adults, and all is delivered with a professional conviction. I would certainly recommend Martin and Nature Voices if you have the chance to book him.”

Repertoire

In 2023 Martin began Nature Voices after a walk with friends in The Forest of Dean. A member of the group saw a wild boar, whom she dubbed Benny. In a moment of inspiration, with their footseps providing the beat, Benny the Boar was born. Benny was subsequently turned into a book, illustrated by the talented Kate Field.

Other characters in Martin’s repertoire include:

Red Fox, Eurasian River Otter, Water Shrew, Hazel Dormouse, Kingfisher, Natterjack Toad, Great Crested Newt, Harbour Porpoise, European Eel, Pine Marten, Beaver, Seaweed, Lichen.
